The top is <b>surprisingly rocky and wild for a hill in the centre of a major city<\/b>. The elevation provides <b>fabulous views of Edinburgh in all directions<\/b>.\n\nThe summit is steeped in legend. An <b>ancient Celtic legend<\/b> says it is the home of an <b>ancient sleeping dragon<\/b>. It is also sometimes <b>associated with the legendary British leader King Arthur<\/b>, potentially being the site of Camelot. It was host to <b>four Dark Age forts<\/b> on the surrounding hills. A <b>hoard of Bronze Age weapons<\/b> was also found nearby. This historical density gives the <b>explore<\/b> a similar feel to the <a href=\"https:\/\/hikeriderun.com\/blaise-castle-circular\/\"><b>Blaise Castle Circular<\/b><\/a>.<\/br>\n\nThe path conditions require caution. The routes are a <b>combination of surfaced tracks, muddy, grassy paths, and very rocky and slippery sections<\/b>. <b>Great care is needed with footing<\/b>. The paths become <b>very slippery and difficult in wet and icy conditions<\/b>. You must <b>come prepared with sturdy footwear<\/b>. I was lucky to climb at a quieter time, which made it feel like a <b>real get away from it all place<\/b>. I completed the climb and descent (about <b>3 miles<\/b>) in <b>2 hours and 30 minutes<\/b>.\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element
