Alternatively, public transport provides regular buses from Fort William to Glencoe, with schedules available online.

When was Glencoe Lochan built?

The forest was planted in the 1890s by owner Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal. 🌲

After acquiring the Glencoe Estate in 1895, Smith filled the woodland with North American conifers as a heartfelt gesture to cheer his Canadian wife, Isabella Sophia Hardisty, who was missing home.

Lochan Trail – Red Route

1 mile (1.6km)

A flat, easy loop around the lochan through the Canadian conifers, the red trail is the most popular and accessible, and it’s also suitable for wheelchairs.

Woodland Trail – Yellow Route

1 mile (1.6km)

Winding through the vast and stunning North American woodlands, this trail offers epic views before reaching the far end of the lochan. For a longer adventure, try combining the red and yellow trails to fully enjoy the scenery. 🌲

Mountain Trail – Blue Route

1 mile (1.6km)

Though as short as the other trails, the steep climb to the summit will get your legs working! From the top, enjoy unmatched views of the hilly landscape, including Beinn a’ Bheithir to the left and the Pap of Glencoe behind. 🏞️
